‘Syria’ is about power, money, influence and energy
When you peek below the surface, it becomes clear that Syria is under attack due to the interests of the parties involved. ‘Syria’ is about power, money, influence and energy.

Why is Syria under attack? - Part 2
On the interests of the parties involved in the Syrian conflict and the role of the media
In the event of major military conflicts that risk considerable humanitarian and economic consequences, it is useful to examine the interests of all parties involved as well as the role that the media plays in reporting the events.

Why is Syria under attack? - Part 1
Who is behind the chemical weapons attack in Syria?
On the surface it’s straightforward: the U.S. wants to liberate Syria from a brutal dictator who is attacking his own people with poison gas. But beneath the surface there is something very different going on.

Fight against Damascus and Tehran a threat to Russian and Chinese interests
Not the entire world is wishing for a different Iran, although it does seem like that at times. Superpowers China and Russia are charting their own course, and in spite of their modern relationships with the West, there are still a lot of differences.

Preparations for a war against Iran in full gear
News reports on Iran are now following each other in rapid succession, and together they form a new step towards a military conflict. [...] What follows is an analysis of these fast-moving developments

NATO and CIA covertly arming Syrian rebels in order to weaken Iran
It is clear that all the pieces are being put into place for a war against Iran. It is a long-term project demanding many years worth of preparation, and the ultimate goal is getting closer all the time. One component of this preparation is the covert arming of Syrian rebels.

Israel and the U.S.: Iran not working on a nuclear weapon
While the world is getting the impression that a war with Iran has drawn a few steps closer, representatives of Israel and the U.S. are making some remarkable statements about the Islamic Republic. These statements are remarkable in part because, at the same time, the build-up to a military confrontation would seem to be continuing apace.

Iran and the West + Israel are like two trains on the same track heading straight for each other
The issue of Iran is immersed in a fog of propaganda, deception, fear and interests. Once you step out of the fog and rise above the news coverage about Iran you see that a battle is being waged on multiple fronts. It is a war about power.

Politicians and the media disregard facts in Iran report
In an article responding to the report released by the IAEA CNN headlines: 'Iran developing nuclear bombs'. Media and politics worldwide make bold statements as to what to do about the Iranian 'situation'. But what are the facts?

IAEA report is a new step on the road to the next war: against Iran
Iran is once again finding itself at the top of the agenda. Pressure is being stepped up on all of the parties involved. This is a new step on the road to the next war - this one against Iran.

New steps on the road to a military conflict with Iran
The information war that is currently raging around Iran is part of the ongoing conflict with the country. It is one component of the preparations for war against Iran that have been underway for years, and which follow the template used to conquer Iraq.

Obama continues Bush's Iran policy - 3
The influence of the Israel Lobby on America's Iran policy
'America's Pro-Israel Lobby', as AIPAC calls itself, holds the biggest conference in its history today, yesterday and the day before in Washington. 'This year, the lobby has built its annual conference, and its entire lobbying agenda around the issue of Iran', writes Haaretz. AIPAC is very influential, and Washington fears the long arm of the lobby. One of the resources it employs is the Office of Terrorism and Financial Intelligence (TFI).

Obama continues Bush's Iran policy - 2
The battle against Iran has already begun. War is only one phase of this process - just as it was with Iraq. The preparation is the most important part of the battle. Whoever thought that the preparation for war ended when Barack Obama took office is advised to take note of the views of critical thinker Noam Chomsky in the previous installment of this DeepJournal series. He says that Obama's policy on Iran is a continuation of the policy of his predecessor, President Bush. Anyone who cares to look at the facts will see that he is right.

Obama continues Bush's Iran policy - 1
Also under President Obama Iran continues to dominate the world agenda. Iran is being presented as a crucial problem that must be solved. The Iran Problem is one with several layers. The uppermost layer is that Iran is a potential threat to world peace. What are the facts and the fiction that make up this first layer?

The attack on Iran has already begun
For the first time in a year international talks are being held with Iran. The question is whether or not these talks are designed to arrive at a solution. Or do these discussions - and the sanctions which will no doubt follow - represent an uptick in the direction of a military conflict, just as was the case with Iraq?

The West and the Iranian Green Revolution - 3
With the recent voter uprising in Iran, accusations are going back and forth over possible Western support for the demonstrators. Accusations coming from the Iranian side don't sound so plausible because they are issued from an extremist regime that puts a low priority on human rights - appearances are against them. But what are the facts?

The West and the Iranian Green Revolution - 2
Western interests in Iran
On the possible influence of the West in the uprising in Iran there is a difference of opinion. Some influential commentators share their vision on current affairs. In order to not be mislead by those current affairs and reach the core of the issue, in this article the three layers around the problem of Iran are exposed.

The Next War: Donkerdoorn vs Daan de Wit (1)
DD: Daan, we now have Obama - the man of change - in Washington. Bush is gone, and with him goes the American threat to Iran. Or so you'd think. We're still hearing that trusty "Bush rhetoric" out of Washington. [...] Are we dealing with schizophrenic American policy here? How do you explain this American position?

The increasing encirclement of Iran
Earlier this month the Annual Threat Assessment was released by the U.S. Director of National Intelligence, Michael McConnell.  The assessment, provided as a testimony for the U.S. Senate Intelligence Committee, offers an insight into the current outlook of the president's most important intelligence advisor. In his testimony McConnell emphasizes Iranian attempts to enrich uranium as well as Iran's capacity to fire long-range weapons. The combination of these two are now being presented at the highest levels of power as the central argument for branding Iran as a danger to world peace. As if the National Intelligence Estimate never even existed.

Despite NIE: White House policy towards Iran unchanged
The release of the National Intelligence Estimate (NIE) earlier this month is bringing a serious conflict among the American elite to the surface. The neoconservative block within this group of elites is being driven into a corner by the rest of the establishment. These opponents, responsible for the NIE, don't want a war with Iran. However, the ideology of the neocons is intact, and they are the ones who are still calling the shots. This resistance will only make the resolve of this group greater. In this way the report may actually increase the likelihood of an escalation, while at the same time the result of such - a war with Iran - continues to be a real possibility.

Further steps in the lead-up to the war with Iran
The Bush Administration says it wants to solve the situation with Iran diplomatically. Meanwhile this series from DeepJournal is showing that behind the scenes there is little to no credibility being given to this route, and that preparations have been underway and continue to be made for a military conflict with Iran. Experts in the area of American foreign policy point to the possibility that the U.S. could provoke an incident in order to then be able to intervene militarily. From this perspective, they have their doubts about the American view of alleged Iranian interference in Iraq and even about the recent incident in which six nuclear weapons were flown over the U.S.

Attack on Iran: the question is only when and in what form
A military confrontation with Iran is being prepared on several fronts. This is a continuing and dynamic process on which DeepJournal has been reporting since September of 2005. Important recent developments in this primarily American process concern military planning, the manipulation of information and the adjustment of strategy.

En route to a military confrontation with Iran
Neither the situation in Iraq, nor the financial crisis, nor the price of oil is capable of driving the issue of Iran into the background. The threat of a conflict with Iran remains at the top of the agenda. Only in part this drumbeat for war is being fed only by articles from Fox News such as 'U.S. Officials Begin Crafting Iran Bombing Plan' or the report being shown on later today by Fox, Iran: Ticking Bomb. Former National Security Advisor for President Carter, Zbigniew Brzezinski, said in a CNN interview with Wolf Blitzer that 'the president and particularly the vice president are trying to hype the atmosphere', whereby he also sees obvious connections to the run-up to the war with Iraq.

The next step in the neoconservative march on Iran
The pressure will further intensify out in the open, but behind the scenes there isn't much credibility being given to this route. The ones involved are instead taking stock by further preparing themselves for a war with Iran. The next step in the neoconservative march on Iran has been taken.

Despite battle in the White House: war with Iran
Those who are calling for negotiations are operating from the faulty assumption that Iran is going to be able to remain a sovereign state. The goal is for an Iran that is under the influence of Israel and the U.S. This goal can't be achieved in full without some form of violence. Thus the only way that the Bush Administration can rehabilitate itself in the eyes of the public - given all the scandals and the mess in Iraq - is to pull itself out of its slump via spectacular means within the time remaining in the current presidential term. Altogether this means that only one option remains - the option that was the objective from the very beginning, namely an attack on Iran.

Attack on Iran is the next step in divide and conquer of Middle East
The march towards war with Iran continues unabated. As time goes by, the possibility that Iran will be attacked is not lessening, but growing. It will increase the level of chaos in the Middle East, but the question is whether this is an unfortunate consequence or a means to an end.

The coming war against Iran - Part 15
Using strong words and accusations to underscore their military build up, the United States is gearing up to go to war with yet another country: Iran. Now that with every day passing a war with Iran is coming closer, all the parties involved are further entrenching themselves.

It is a war that seemed to be inevitable from the start. Nobody wants it, except a few. History will show if these few will get what they are aiming for.

The Coming War Against Iran - Part 14
Bush and Cheney have less than two years to go in their current role and want to go down in the history books as the heroes of the Pax Americana, as the men who managed to conquer the Middle East and its oil, as the men who took full-spectrum dominance seriously, while in their own country booking successes through exorbitant profits for the military-industrial complex and the realization of radical legislation. The prelude was long and the path was full of obstacles, but the goal of a third great war - a war with Iran - is increasingly within sight. [...] Bush and Cheney have taken a beating, but they have not been defeated. Moreover, they have nothing to lose.

The coming war against Iran - Part 12
The previous coverage in this series on the preparations being made for war by American, Israeli and Kurdish troops on Iranian territory is now being followed by new information indicating that various units of the Navy must achieve a state of readiness by October 1st, and that the planning as it relates to Iran has been forwarded from the Pentagon to the White House. Sam Gardiner: 'I think the plan'sbeen picked: bomb the nuclear sites in Iran'.

Various units of the U.S. Navy have been informed that they must achieve a state of readiness by October 1st. The planning as it relates to Iran has been sent on to the White House. Sam Gardiner concludes: 'I think the plan's been picked: bomb the nuclear sites in Iran'. U.S. President George Bush was recently quoted as saying: 'It's very important for the American people to see the president try to solve problems diplomatically before resorting to military force.'

The coming war against Iran - Part 10
Positive signs, disturbing facts
Iran has been high on the public and political agenda for some time now. Many observers are considering the possibility of a military confrontation, but accounts are anything but conclusive. Reports have been varying rapidly of late, whereby facts, opinions and suspicions battle it out for attention. Encouraging sounds can be heard, but as of yet the facts seem to indicate only a temporary cooling-off of a conflict that is becoming hotter and hotter.

Closer to a nuclear confrontation with Iran
Indications that the U.S. is heading towards a nuclear confrontation with Iran have only become stronger of late. Plans that have existed for a long time are now being systematically carried out. Seymour Hersh writes: 'One military planner told me [...]: “People think Bush has been focussed on Saddam Hussein since 9/11,” but, “in my view, if you had to name one nation that was his focus all the way along, it was Iran.”

Protection dollar economy as a motive for war with Iran
The dollar economy is being threatened by the soon to be established Iranian oil bourse, which will trade oil in euros. In addition to oil and the expansion of U.S. hegemony at the expense of future adversaries, preservation of the dollar's status has become a critical incentive for the U.S. to send out the word notifying the world of the coming war with Iran.

Recipe for Disaster

The coming war against Iran - Part 6
Preemptive nuclear strike, spring 2006?
As we have illustrated in the preceding five parts of this series, the U.S., Israel and Britain are getting ready for an attack on Iran - a preemptive nuclear attack, if the U.S. gets its way. Premier Sharon of Israel is adding fuel to the fire: 'ISRAEL'S armed forces have been ordered by Ariel Sharon, the prime minister, to be ready by the end of March for possible strikes on secret uranium enrichment sites in Iran, military sources have revealed', reports The Sunday Times.

US and Israel ready for preemptive (nuclear) attack
The declaration made by the neoconservative leader of Iran that Israel should be wiped off the map adds fuel to the fire that the U.S. and Israel have already set in the course of preparing the diplomatic and military groundwork for a war against Iran. British Prime Minister Blair saw in the statements of his Iranian counterpart a "golden opportunity" (according to a BBC reporter) to call attention to the Iranian threat.

US and Israel ready for preemptive (nuclear) attack
Twenty-two countries, among them Germany, France and the Netherlands, are laying the foundations for a war against Iran by endorsing the resolution of the IAEA. This is a venture that could potentially lead to serious consequences. The US and Israel are getting ready for a preemptive strike against Iran, and the US is not ruling out the use of nuclear weapons. All that remains is a provocation, a second September 11th for example, carried out by Israel or the US.

Conflict could escalate with involvement of Russia and China
Military plans, legislation and psychological manipulation are now being fine-tuned and put into place in order to carry out a war against Iran. American planning for a war against Iran can be spotted in the headlines from this past week. American pressure is so great that the major European powers are now endorsing a radical declaration made by the UN's nuclear watchdog group (IAEA), with Russia and China withholding their vote.

Webster Tarpley: Staged attack to precede war
Psychological manipulation and military plans are now being fine-tuned and put into place in order to carry out a war against Iran. This manipulation of the public at large strongly resembles preparations taken prior to the current war in Iraq, giving rise to suspicions of a potential diversionary tactic by the U.S. military. At the same time that pressure to pull the troops out of Iraq is intensifying, the U.S. is dispatching an entire division there, possibly to employ against Iran at a later date.

The coming war against Iran - Part 1
Serious implications feared
The natural disasters in the United States have not managed to keep plans for attacking Iran from becoming any less of a reality. A war against Iran is seen by the US and Israel as a way to achieve otherwise divergent strategic goals. Military plans, legislation and psychological manipulation are now being fine-tuned and put into place in order to carry out a war against Iran.

Is Syria on the same list as Iraq? - 2
Besides Iraq, Syria also target of neocons
Jim Lobe writes: 'As speculation about a U.S. invasion of Syria reaches a boil, it is helpful to look for hard clues. Many of the same neo-conservative hawks who campaigned for war against Iraq have signed reports in recent years that call for confrontation -- not mere engagement -- with Syria. In words that echo the same logic for striking Baghdad, the most prominent report, called "Ending Syria's Occupation of Lebanon: The U.S. Role", warned that Damascus is developing weapons of mass destruction (WMD) and encouraged swift preemption.
